Is there anything cuter than baby animals? The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center (EAWRC), Eastern Long Island's sole Wildlife Hospital, is currently raising funds for the little ones that they nurture back to health during a Wildlife Baby Shower Fundraiser - yes, that's right, a Wildlife Baby Shower.

"Everyone loves babies and wildlife babies require just as much care as human babies," Shelley Berkoski, EAWRC Director of Development, noted. Each year, approximately 500 orphans land on EAWRC's door. The Center welcomes ducklings, which need to be bathed daily, raccoons - up to 30 babies at a time, possum moms can have up to 13 babies per litter, fawns, which drink more than 225 pounds of formula a season, and more. "Every donation counts towards their care, no matter the amount, it all adds up," Berkoski added.

Since 2000, the 501(c)(3) not for profit has been committed to caring for injured and orphaned East End wildlife. While the pandemic has forced the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center to cancel several major fundraising events, animal admissions have actually significantly increased. Which led to the Wildlife Baby Shower Fundraiser. The virtual benefit provides all the chance to directly help EAWRC's adorable, vulnerable, injured and orphaned baby wildlife patients.

To support the cause, shoppers can purchase an item from the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center's Amazon wishlist, which consists of items always needed at the hospital - such as Green Toys My First Stacker, Wobble Wag Giggle Ball, Van Ness Stainless Steel Small Double Dish, Kaytee Igloo Hideaway, Sunbeam UltraHeat Heating Pad, KennelSol Dog Crate Cleaner and Disinfectant, Tide Free & Gentle HE Turbo Liquid Laundry Detergent, Scott Nutri Chomps, MAXPOWER 24" Heavy Duty Bolt Cutter, and more. The list can be found at Amazon.com.

Additionally, donations can be made at wildliferescuecenter.org or through the EAWRC's Facebook fundraiser. Those donations will be utilized for items that Amazon cannot deliver.

The Hampton Bays-based Wildlife Rescue Center's mission is "to preserve & protect our region's native wildlife by providing rehabilitation services and education to raise public awareness of the factors that threaten its abundance and diversity." The Center includes a full-time professional wildlife hospital that is staffed by licensed rehabilitators, biologists, animal behaviorists and volunteers. Each year, the Center receives more than 10,000 calls regarding either information about or aid with wild animal encounters.

Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center's Wildlife Baby Shower Fundraiser will be held through Thursday, July 16.
