Have you been looking for a "purrfect" friend? If so, the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Council and the North Fork Animal Welfare League (NFAWL) are joining forces to present Dog Days of Summer, with the main goal of "bringing families together".

On Saturday, August 17, 2019, the multi-group adoption event, as well as the first ever "Eastminster Dog Show", will be held at the Cutchogue Village Green.

"The Dog Days of Summer is a collaborative event that will not just help get more animals into loving homes, but will also act as an educational vehicle for the public," explained Gillian Wood Pultz, North Fork Animal Welfare League's executive director. "By having beautiful adoptable dogs from an agency like East Hampton's ARF, alongside the equally beautiful dogs from the Town of Hempstead, will show the public that great dogs are available at their local shelter - there's nothing 'broken' about shelter pets - the only thing 'wrong' with rescued animals is that there's a human who has failed them in their past."

In addition to North Fork Animal Welfare League, which includes the Southold Animal Shelter and Riverhead Animal Shelter, Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF), Bideawee, Kent Animal Shelter, Last Chance Animal Rescue, Long Island Greyhound Connection, Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, and Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter will be represented.

Both Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Council and NFAWL are thrilled to be partnering together for this kid-friendly, multi-group adoption event. Kids can enjoy face painting, pet-themed crafts led by Theresa Maritato (Theresa's Programs) and Penn Kelley (Southhold Library Teen Department), food and ice cream, and more. There will also be vendors and pet-related booths and a Chinese auction.

The event will also be raising money for the North Fork Animal Welfare League through the inaugural Eastminster Dog Show. The Westminster parody is open to all pups and will feature a variety of categories - like silliest walk and best kisser. Money generated from this fundraiser (there's a $5 Dog Show admission fee) will go to help more homeless animals.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Council, it was their impetus to have a Dog Show and it really plugs into the League's philosophy that animals are part of the family. What could reinforce this belief more than bringing everyone out to enjoy a gorgeous day with their furry family members in a prime East End location," added Pultz. "We thank Mr. Snowden and his team for including animals in need during one of their popular height-of-the-season summer events."

Dog Days of Summer will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., while the Dog Show will be held from 1 to 3 p.m.

So go find your new furry best friend on August 17, 2019! The Village Green is located at 927320 Route 25 in Cutchogue.
