On Friday, March 1, singer and songwriter Caroline Doctorow, along with her band The Ballad Makers, will headline the next 5th annual Songwriters Concert Series. Singer and songwriter Chris Klein, who is also a Sag Harbor Elementary School teacher, will open.

"The 3rd concert of the 5th annual Songwriters Concert Series is sure to be a hit with Caroline Doctorow and her band the Ballad Makers - warming the room with her velveteen voice and thought-provoking song lyrics," Nancy Remkus, Songwriters Share Founder, shared. "Truly dedicated to her craft, Caroline tours the country keeping folk music an important part of the culture and heritage of our country."

As each concert gives back to the East End community, Doctorow has selected Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt, an organization focused on "the preservation, stewardship, and public appreciation of the unique expanse of coastal plain ponds, freshwater swamps, wetlands, and woodlands in the Town of Southampton known as the Long Pond Greenbelt, which stretches from Ligonee Creek in Sag Harbor to Sagg Pond in Sagaponack," to share a portion of the proceeds with.

"The Songwriters Share Concert Series continues to build momentum and is a favorite of performers and musicians alike - it is a place to actually hear the lyrics and listen to the things that have inspired musicians to write their songs," Remkus added. "Add to it a free wine and cheese reception and rubbing elbows with musicians, community members and friends from afar - and you have all of the ingredients for a wonderful, warm winter evening."

Doctorow, whose musical style pays homage to the folk artists of the '60s, is the daughter of the late world-renowned author E.L. Doctorow. She has released eleven solo albums, as well as Another Country, the first retrospective of the work of '60s folk icons Richard and Mimi Fariņa, which earned critical acclaim. Her latest album, Dreaming in Vinyl, reached #2 on the folk radio airplay charts. Doctorow's songs have been featured on soundtracks on both the large and small screen.

"Caroline Doctorow has been responsible for some of the sweetest songs of the modern folk idiom," No Depression Magazine said.

The American folk music champion was honored with The Alexander Award from the Long Island Arts Council earlier this year, and was also celebrated with an official New York State Proclamation from State Senator John E. Brooks.

Next year, she will appear in Christopher Lucas' Pete Seeger Legacy alongside Taj Mahal. The film, which pays tribute to Pete Seeger's legacy and 100th birthday, will also feature Guy Davis, Dar Williams, John Cohen and others.

Klein, who is a Southampton native, is a member of the band Born&Raised. His musical career started nearly two decades ago, in the living rooms of his fellow educators. His music is a mix of everything from country to rock, and genres in between.

"Opening for Caroline will be third grade teacher and very talented singer/songwriter Chris Klein - who brings with him a dedicated local following. Chris' talent and warmth shine through his performances and has a way of building community," Remkus noted.

As per usual, the Songwriters Concert Series will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse in Bridgehampton. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and a complimentary reception will follow.

General admission is $20 and $15 for seniors and students.

After Doctorow, headliners will include Fred Raimondo (playing for The Retreat) on April 5, Gene Casey (playing for Turtle Rescue of the Hamptons) on May 3, and Nancy Remkus/Dan Koontz (playing for the Sag Harbor Community Food Pantry) on June 7.

Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse at 977 Sag Harbor/Bridgehampton Turnpike.
