Winter is a particularly challenging time for the food secure, which is why Citizens 4 Humanity
is looking to spread the love by presenting its East End - Valentine's fundraising campaign. Funding will be used to purchase food that will be turned into a delicious, nutritious meal prepared by Citizens 4 Humanity Co-Founder and COO Chef Marco Barrila
, an award winning master chef, caterer and restaurateur, and Citizens 4 Humanity volunteers. Once finished, the fare is packaged and delivered directly to those in need.
"If people knew more about the power of giving, they would not let a single meal pass without sharing it is some way," Citizens 4 Humanity Co-Founder and Deputy Volunteer Sheila Minkel Barrila noted.
The culinary creations come to fruition at donated spaces such as the Greek Church or SouthFork Kitchen Stony Brook both in Southampton. Recipients receive meals that include proteins, salads, sides and dessert - with enough to last a few days.
A firm believer in "people helping people," the grass roots organization focuses on offering support to local families and individuals - with a strong focus on single moms and their children - through food. Not only do the meals alleviate monetary pressures, but they also provide a chance for some family bonding during mealtime. During Christmastime, Citizens 4 Humanity assisted over 26 families in the East End community.
Citizens 4 Humanity hopes to raise $2,500 through its East End - Valentine's fundraising campaign. For every $25 to $75 raised, the organization is able to feed two to five people for an entire weekend. $150 to $225 allows the organization to feed an entire family for the week.
