Sixty-Something: My All-Time Favorite Hamptons Mixed Drink

What is more pleasant than recalling your favorite mixed drink? There are always those fascinating concoctions you get at tropical island resorts! Then when you eat Asian food you get a new list of bizarre options. I remember in the early 1970's folks used to "get stung" on Stingers! Then there was the White Russian-Black Russian phase of the 1980's. However today I am focusing on my all-time favorite Hamptons mixed drink.

Before I announce my favorite I must mention the two runner-ups. In third place was the Montauk Yacht Club's, Yachtini, created by Keith Bataglia then the Sales and Marketing Director of the MYC, back in 2008. All I know is after two of these I would walk out the door and try to board the biggest yacht moored there.

Another all-time favorite had to be a Ben Dollinger made Blue Parrot frozen Mango Margarita! I so enjoyed watching Ben make them with real mangos. I used to sip a few of them on the hottest of summer days.

My all-time favorite Hamptons Drink is/was the Cyril's BBC, the Baileys Banana Colada with a rum floater. Made right in front of you with a real banana, ice and Baileys, the drink was always heaven on a hot summer's day. It was like a banana milkshake after work. It was the perfect after beaching drink. Others all over the Hamptons have attempted to copy it but no one has. People in huge numbers would go to Cyril's because the BBC was that good. No one made more BBC's over the year than Juliette Logie, who for years practically ran Cyril's along with her sisters. I asked for the recipe, and she was kind enough to share it with me. In a message about the BBC, she said, "Hi TJ! -1 bottle white rum, 1 bottle cheap Irish cream, 1 bottle banana liquor, 1 bottle liquid Piņa Colada mix. Pour in blender and add a banana."

There it is, the official recipe for my all-time favorite Hamptons mixed drink. Cyril's is now closed down and it's a shame. All of us who so enjoyed the BBC are sad about that. The energy and fun of having a BBC at Cyril's is over. I sometimes would get there during off peak times and have a BBC with a nice lobster dinner at the bar (That's actually one of mine in the photo above!).

Yes, Joni Mitchell was right, "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone!"
