Two Westhampton-based organizations are teaming up to present viewings of the acclaimed animal documentary, Pick of the Litter
Besides watching over an hour of adorable puppy cuteness - Bideawee
, a leading animal welfare and pet adoption organization, and the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center
hope to raise awareness for the hundreds of thousands of cats and dogs that await their forever home in animal shelters.
Directed by Dana Nachman & Don Hardy, Jr., the documentary follows the journey of a litter of puppies as they attempt to become Guide Dogs for the Blind. The two-year adventure, which starts when the pups are born, shows what it takes for a dog to essentially become entrusted with the sight of their blind partners. Not every dog is cut out to serve their human companion in such an important role, and while only the top dogs will be awarded this prestigious honor, the film's stars meet some extraordinary people along the way of this life-altering quest.
"The Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center was established as a community-based organization," noted Joshua Bracken, Communications Manager for the WHBPAC
. "We often forget the fact that our pets are an integral part of that community, they're family. Because of that, we are truly excited to partner with, support and recognize Bideawee with this screening. We truly hope it sheds light on the amazing work they do in our community, as well as nationwide, and hopefully leads to new homes for several of the animals in their care."
Pick of the Litter
will screen at Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Friday, September 28 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, September 30 at 4 p.m. Those that arrive early will have the chance to meet some very special four legged friends.
Tickets to Pick of the Litter
are $15 for adults, $7 for children 15 & under, and $9 for seniors.
Additionally, for those that are inspired to add a new member to their family, Bideawee will host its annual Fall in Love Festival on Sunday, October 14. From 12 to 4 p.m., Bideawee's Westhampton location will present a variety of fun fall-themed activities, giveaways, food, pumpkins, pet vendors, pet activities, kids zone, music and much more. Attendees can meet adoptable puppies, kittens, dogs and cats of all ages and sizes, and if they connect with one of the Bideaweeans, they can start the adoption process and even name their own adoption price.
