The Sag Harbor Historical Society's Fridays on the Porch Summer Series continues on Friday, July 27 with a visit from East Hampton Town Councilman David Lys, who also serves as president of the Amagansett Life-Saving and Coast Guard Station Society. The event will take place at the Annie Cooper Boyd House at 5 p.m.

For seven years, Lys has led the effort to fundraise for and restore the Amagansett U.S. Life-Saving Station, which has just been nominated to the National Historic Register. The Station, which was constructed in 1902, was part of a network of 30 life-saving stations located on the South Shore of Long Island.

"Fridays on the Porch are not only very informative but they are also a great way to get together with your neighbors, friends and visitors and spend some time chatting on the porch of the beautiful Annie Cooper Boyd House on Main Street in Sag Harbor," Nancy Remkus of the Sag Harbor Historical Society explained.

Lys will speak about the modern day Coast Guard and how the lifesaving services have evolved, showing photos of East End stations and the men who worked there, protecting the shores. He will also discuss the processes and experiences preserving the historic Amagansett Life-Saving Station.

"Each Fridays on the Porch leaves you a little richer in the knowledge of our beautiful area and its amazing past," Remkus added.

Admission to Fridays on the Porch is $20. The admission fee includes wine, cheese and other snacks.

Guests are also encouraged to wander through the Society's 2018 exhibit, Presenting Sag Harbor: Through Letters, Journalism, Costumes, Art, Photos and Local Voices.

Future Fridays on the Porch include "World War II with Paul Gerecke" on Friday, August 10 and "Antiques Roadshow with Randy Kolhoff," owner of Black Swan Antiques, on Friday, August 24.

The Annie Cooper Boyd House is located at 174 Main Street in Sag Harbor. For more information, visit sagharborhistorical.org.
