Anastasia Lennon

What better way to enjoy fall on Long Island (and celebrate Halloween a bit early) than with the Oysterponds Historical Society, who is hosting a Fall Festival this October. This family friendly event runs from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 28 at the Orient-based Historical Society and includes a Halloween costume parade and some trick-or-treating! There will also be crafts, live music, games, refreshments, and more.

"We are so excited to once again welcome families to this fun community festival," shared Elsbeth Dowd, Executive Director of the Oysterponds Historical Society.

The mission of the Oysterponds Historical Society is to "collect, preserve and interpret the history of the Orient and East Marion community and to celebrate its cultures and share its heritage through education, history and scholarship." Its properties are home to two nineteenth century schoolhouses, a red barn, and over 70,000 artifacts of the North Fork's past and culture and "artifacts reflect more than four centuries of North Fork life and culture and its buildings represent significant examples of local architecture." Exhibits are also open Wednesdays through Sundays, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and include historic rooms.

In the words of the Historical Society, "have a jolly hallowe'en!"

The Oysterponds Historical Society is located at 1555 Village Lane in Orient. For more information, please call 631-323-2480 or visit www.oysterpondshistoricalsociety.org.
