On Saturday, October 21, you're in for a real treat when the Shelter Island Historical Society presents its Annual Shelter Island Oyster Event.

"Sponsored by Alice's Fish Market and Bridgehampton National Bank, our 5th annual oyster event is a fun casual event for all ages," shared Nanette Lawrenson, Executive Director of the Shelter Island Historical Society.

From 5 to 7 p.m., attendees (over 21-years-old) can sip on wine or beer as they nosh on half-shell provided and shucked by Alice's Fish Market of Greenport and Oysters Rockefeller prepared by Tom Hashage.

An astonishing amount of oysters were consumed during the 2016 soiree. "Last year over 7,000 oysters were served," Lawrenson noted. And, if oysters aren't your thing, you won't leave hangry. "There's plenty of non-oyster hors d'oeuvres as well," she assured.

In addition to preparing exceptional bites, Hashage, along with Lisa Shaw, will entertain the crowd with live music and guests can also take in exhibits by The Nature Conservancy, Mashomack Preserve, Chris Pickerell, the Shelter Island Historical Society and other interesting local organizations.

Additionally, partygoers can commemorate the autumn affair in the photo-booth provided by Shelter Island Party Rental.

Admission to the Oyster Event is $50.

"Funds raised support the Shelter Island historical Society's annual operating budget," she explained.

The Shelter Island Historical Society's mission is "to collect, research, preserve, and share local history" and the organization "interprets Shelter Island's past through historical material and through its people; from the first Native American inhabitants, settlers, and town fathers, to those who have made it a caring and unique community through the years."

Shelter Island Historical Society is located at 16 South Ferry Road in Shelter Island. For more information, call 631-749-0025 or visit www.shelterislandhistorical.org.
