On Sunday, September 10, get to know the North Fork artisanal food, wine and beer scene a little better when the 11th Annual North Fork Foodie Tour, presented by North Fork Reform Synagogue, returns to highlight the area's bounty.

"One of the reasons we are so proud of the North Fork Foodie Tour is that this is our opportunity to give back to our community by supporting the farmers and food producers whose hard work and creativity are building on the North Fork's agricultural and maritime heritage, helping to preserve its unique character while enriching it with their wide variety of products," shared Kay Freeman, North Fork Foodie Tour Co-chair. "It also gives us an opportunity to educate the public about where their food comes from and the love and effort it takes to bring it to their tables. And, it's so much fun for those who attend!!"

This year's event will take attendees on an excursion that will highlight 20 North Fork locales, showcasing a diverse variety of local food and beverage producers that are based in Southold, Peconic, Cutchogue, Mattituck, Riverhead, Jamesport, and Eastport. The self-guided tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at East End farms and other establishments.

Participants can make stops at Peconic Land Trust Ag Center at Charnews Farm, Deep Roots Farm, The Farm, North Fork Hops, North Fork Roasting Co., Southold Bay Oysters, Catapano Dairy Farm, Greenport Harbor Brewery, Krupski's Vegetable & Pumpkin Farm, Sang Lee Farms, Satur Farms, 8 Hands Farm, Koppert Cress, Browder's Birds, Macari Wines, Mar-Gene Farms, Shinn Estate Vineyards, Goodale Farms, Feisty Acres/Biophilia Farm, and Lavender by the Bay.

"The Foodie Tour organized by the North Fork Reform Synagogue each year provides a wonderful opportunity to meet the women and men growing and producing food and beverages on Long Island - in the fields and at their stands," shared Denise Markut, North Fork Stewardship Manager, Peconic Land Trust. "The Trust is thrilled to once again share our Agricultural Center as a welcome area for tour participants and we look forward to sharing the story of the center and our work with local farmers to all who stop by."

In addition to sampling the locally made treasures, tourgoers will have the chance to learn how these beloved items are made and get to know the people that produce them.

The event will also feature guest speakers Chef John Ross (who will demonstrate recipes using local seasonal ingredients), Peter Clarke of Clarkes's Garden (who will cover how to use herbs), Melissa Henrey of The Farm Beyond (who will explore what wild plants you can eat), and Cori Kopke of Backyard Brine Pickles (who will speak about how a pickle business grew from the backyard garden).

"In the words of Foodie Tourist, Donna Albano, 'I did the Foodie Tour last year...it was great! And, I just bought tickets for this year!'" added Freeman.

General admission is $25 ($26.87 w/service fee) and free for children 12-years-old and under.
