Dash Into The Spring Running Season During Katy’s Courage’s Annual Sag Harbor 5K
The 7th Annual Katy's Courage
5K is fast-approaching. On Saturday, April 22, runners and walkers of all ages are invited to race for a cause in Sag Harbor.
Whether you've been fitting in weekly runs or are more comfortable with quick paced walks, the flat course with only a few small gentle hills makes for a great morning workout. "The 5K is wonderful. You can train for it and still have a life," said Jim Stewart, Co-Founder of Katy's Courage. "You can race one every weekend and still be able to walk normally. If people ran more 5Ks, I'm positive the average life satisfaction of humans would increase dramatically. In fact many of our participants walk the course and have a wonderful time!"
The race starts at 21 West Water Street in Sag Harbor and finishes adjacent to the water and the spectacular harbor.
Proceeds from the race will support Katy's Courage, a not-for-profit organization which honors Katy Steward, a 12-year-old girl who died from a rare form of pediatric liver cancer. The 501(c)3 strives to educate, research, and provide grief support for any child, teenager, and their families suffering on the East End. Through the 5K, Katy's Courage will award scholarships to local students. Funds will also support Katy's Kids @ CMEE
, a program run in collaboration with Children's Museum of the East End
that provides peer group support for children coping with grief or loss.
"We are looking forward to a beautiful day and a great turnout for our seventh 5K," added Stewart. "We appreciate all of the help and support of our volunteers and our advertisers!"
Registration and check-in for the 7th Annual Katy's Courage 5K will take place from 7 to 8:15 a.m., and the race begins promptly at 8:30 a.m.
Pre-registration is $25 per person and registration on the day of is $40.
