On Sunday, December 4th, HRHCare provided complimentary health care services to agricultural workers, one of the State's most underserved populations, during its 3rd annual Day of Health. The event was held at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Riverhead.
"The HRHCare Day of Health allows Long Island's agricultural workers to get access to the quality health care services they deserve," said Anne Kauffman Nolon, MPH, President and CEO of HRHCare. "We know that agricultural workers and their families are one of our state's most chronically underserved populations, and HRHCare is proud to partner with Long Island Sustainable Winegrowers to care for those who do so much for the local economy."
Agriculture is Long Island's second largest industry, but many agricultural workers and their families find it difficult to gain access to quality health care. Poor nutrition, asthma, musculoskeletal conditions, and a lack of preventive care and dental services are among the issues that plague many workers.
"84 participants were able to have a free consultation with an HRHCare physician and/or pediatrician, receive blood pressure screenings, nutrition counseling, information on health insurance, and schedule a follow-up appointment at one of the nine Suffolk County HRHCare health centers," noted Jeffrey Palmer, Public Relations & Special Events Manager at HRHCare Community Health.
HRHCare's Day of Health offered several complimentary health assessments and other primary care services, including a consultation with a bilingual physician and/or pediatrician, blood pressure screening, vaccinations, Agricultural Worker Voucher enrollment, health insurance information and enrollment, referrals for specialty care, oraquick (HIV) screening, family health history assessment, medical transportation scheduling, and guidance in regards to booking a follow-up visit at one of the nine HRHCare Health Centers in Suffolk County.
The Day of Health was made possible through the HRHCare Foundation, as well as support from the Long Island Sustainable Winegrowers' Honoring the Hands benefit.
