On Sunday, September 25th, you can participate in a fun, fall event for the good of the homeless pets of Kent Animal Shelter
. The Calverton-based Animal Shelter's annual Wines & Canines Run/Walk will be held at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"Kent Animal Shelter holds this walk every year," remarked Pamela Green, Executive Director of Kent Animal Shelter. "It's a fundraiser for us as well as an opportunity for dog lovers to meet up for a fun day out at the vineyard." Kent sees many return participants year after year. "For many families, it's a reunion," she said. "We love to see families and their adopted Kent alumni. At the end of the day, by raising money and strengthening our community, we'll be able to save more homeless pets."
Along with the scenic stroll (or run), attendees can mingle with other pet families, support Kent by entering the prize auction or 50-50 raffle and enjoy live music from the Baiting Hollow Vineyard. Participants are encouraged to break out their pet's Halloween costume a little early for the pet costume contest. The afternoon will also include a people/pet look-alike contest and pop up prizes along the route.

"A wonderful community of animal lovers has been the reason we're able to do what we do at the Kent Animal Shelter, and we look forward to continuing that tradition for a long time to come," remarked Green. "From dedicated board members and staff, to volunteers and supporters of all kinds, we're very fortunate to be able to help pets in crisis not just locally but wherever they may be, whether that be Midwest puppy mill survivors, high kill shelters down south, and pets from as far away as the Caribbean and now even from Thailand. We are also a leader in low cost spay/neuter surgeries in the region, preventing unwanted litters and pet homelessness at the source."
Admission to the Wines & Canines Run/Walk is $30 minimum donation per person. Although, children 12 and under can participate for free. The day will begin with a 10 a.m. registration and walkers and runners may start the course anytime between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., as this is not a timed race. Community members are encouraged to come out for a day of fun, exercise, and support for a good cause!
All proceeds will help animals in crisis that were brought to Kent Animal Shelter - who will help nurse the animals back to health before they are ready to find their forever home.
