Riverhead Faculty And Community Theater Presenting "42nd Street"

Nicole Barylski

"It is 1933," Director Jan McGoey sets the stage for Riverhead Faculty and Community Theater's latest production, "Peggy Sawyer has come to New York in hopes of being in a Broadway show." Can you guess which Broadway classic McGoey is referring to? If not, it's "42nd Street."

Based on the novel by Bradford Ropes, the musical follows Peggy Sawyer on her quest to make it big in The Big Apple. After landing a part in the chorus of Director Julian Marsh's production of "Pretty Lady," Sawyer is let go, when the star, Dorothy Brock, breaks her ankle, and blames the theater newbie. But not all hope is lost for Sawyer, as Marsh eventually realizes she could be the show's savior. He rushes to the train station to catch her before she leaves town. So will the actress say yes to what could be her big break?

Founded in 1980, The Riverhead Faculty and Community Theater yearly presents live theater and wholesome family entertainment, with the mission of raising funds for a scholarship that is awarded to deserving Riverhead students. This year's show will showcase a talented chorus, 40 tap dancers, a full 14 piece orchestra, professional costumes, and eye-catching sets. The "42nd Street" cast features James Stevens, Erin McKenna, Bobby Peterson, Marion Stark, Jessica Raven, and many others who will amuse the audience with beloved tunes like "We're in the Money," "Lullaby of Broadway" and "42nd Street."

Performances of "42nd Street" will take place at the Riverhead High School on Friday, November 6th, Saturday, November 7th, Friday, November 13th and Saturday, November 14th at 8 p.m. Matinees can be seen at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 8th and Sunday, November 15th.
