East End Beauty Inspires "Calm Before The Storm"
"Perfect Storm" by Dalton Portella.
Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery
is set to debut its new exhibit, Calm before the Storm,
over Labor Day
weekend. Featuring works by Christine Matthäi and Dalton
Portella, the show will open on Saturday, September 5th, and be on view through Sunday, September 27th.
Matthäi is a German born artist, who has been enamored with photography since an early age. The Fashion Institute of Technology (Berlin) alumni moved to New York City
after graduation, where she worked as a photographer's assistant, photojournalist, and foreign correspondent for international magazines and newspapers. Her Calm before the Storm
pieces feature water reflection images, which were inspired by the East End of Long Island's astounding light settings, in regards to the sea, sky and water.
Portella was born in Miami and raised in Brazil. He moved to New York to study art, and currently resides and works in Montauk. Portella plays with various mediums to create works on both traditional and non-traditional surfaces. For Calm before the Storm,
the artist is showcasing a photographic series portraying an updated take on the classic theme of maritime art. Portella created the works by synthesizings photos he has taken of the sky, oceans and storms.
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, September 5th from 6 to 8 p.m., where guests can meet the artists. An artist talk will take place on Sunday, September 20th from 1 to 3 p.m. Reservations are required for the talk.
