"Over 4500 animals are spayed or neutered at the Kent Animal Shelter's low cost Spay/Neuter Clinic every year to help reduce overpopulation," noted Pam Green, Executive Director, Kent Animal Shelter. The Calverton shelter recently upgraded vital medical equipment thanks to a $23,300 grant from the ASPCA, which will allow them to spay/neuter even more pets.

With the grant, Kent Animal Shelter purchased state-of-the-art medical equipment including a new surgical table, anesthesia machine, surgical lamps, surgical instruments and high-tech items to help monitor pets during surgery. "The ASPCA's medical equipment grant will enable the clinic to significantly increase those numbers with the goal of eliminating the abuse and abandonment of homeless animals," said Green. An increase in the number of animals spayed/neutered will not only help prevent thousands of unwanted litters on the East End, but it will also improve the health and well being of animals in need of a loving home.

Kent Animal Shelter is located at 2259 River Road in Calverton. For more information, call 631-727-5731 or visit www.kentanimalshelter.com.
