Community Scrollathon: Reuse, Repurpose, Upcycle, the Parrish Art Museum's annual Fall Family Festival will take place on Sunday, November 9, 2014. This year, the Museum is partnering with artists-in-residence Steven and William Ladd, The Water Mill Center, and Children's Museum of the East End (CMEE) for the festival, which will feature activities focused on recycling and reusing materials.

Festivities begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Museum lobby, where attendees can participate in a Scrollathon-a scrolling workshop created by the Ladd brothers. The workshop is an extension of the Museum's educational outreach involving the artists-in-residence, whose exhibition Steven and William Ladd: Mary Queen of the Universe is on display from Sunday, October 26, 2014 through Monday, January 19, 2015.

"The Ladd brothers invented Scrollathons to engage the community in creating original works of art from strips of discarded fabric," said Education Director Cara Conklin-Wingfield. "Other workshops in the Fall Family Festival aim to give the participants a feeling that they are engaging in creativity while contributing to a more sustainable future."

Keeping with the event's theme, families will have the opportunity to create and play musical instruments built from recycled materials with Bash the Trash. They can also draw inspiration from another Parrish exhibit, Alan Shields: In Motion, as they make woven works of art with educators from CMEE. Shield's exhibit is on view concurrently with the Ladd brothers' exhibition. The Water Mill Center's artist-in-residence El Colegio del Cuerpo will treat guests to a performance from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a dance workshop.

Parrish Art Museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway in Water Mill. For more information, call 631-283-2118 or visit parrishart.org.
