"Bare" Exhibition To Benefit The Retreat Domestic Violence Services
Fatima #2 by Michael Edelson.
"Both artists are exhibiting images that directly relate to responses of domestic abuse while revealing vulnerability and unprotected emotions, layered sentiments, exposed reactions of retreating into oneself, and the renewal of inner strength," stated gallery owner Alex Ferrone.
From Saturday, September 6, through Sunday, October 12, the Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery in Cutchogue is showcasing "Bare," an exhibition highlighting evocative portraits by Michael Edelson and Ann Brandeis
. A portion of the sales from the exhibit will be donated to The Retreat
, an East End domestic abuse agency whose mission is to provide safety, shelter and support for victims of domestic abuse, and also to break the cycle of family violence.
Photographer Michael Edelson was inspired by Edna St. Vincent Millay's poem, "What Lips My Lips Have Kissed" for his "The Bedroom Has Its Secrets" series and photographed it entirely in the former Greenport Victorian Lady historic bed and breakfast.
Ann Brandeis says she "looks for signs and elements that visually describe or capture our memories - personal moments in time, that remind us of our past, sustain us through our present and guide our future." She seeks to incorporate images from her extensive travel into her photographic dialogues, and focuses on the many paths people take throughout their lives.
Artists Michael Edelson and Ann Brandeis will be taking part in a Gallery Talk on Sunday, October 5, at 1 p.m.
Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery is located at 25425 Main Road in Cutchogue. For more information, call 631-734-8545 or visit www.alexferrone.com.
