In collaboration with the Town of Riverhead, East End Arts has announced "All Fired Up On Main," a fire hydrant design contest intended to spruce up Downtown Riverhead. Artists are invited to submit design proposals that could potentially plaster any one of the 10 hydrants on Main Street between Maple Street and Griffing Avenue.

"East End Arts is pleased to be working with the Town of Riverhead to employ art towards downtown beautification," East End Arts' Executive Director Patricia Snyder said.

There is no specific theme for submissions, however the art must be appropriate for public viewing and each sketch must be submitted with a brief artist bio. A committee will review all applicants and the best of the best will be chosen to bring their ideas to life.

Those selected by the committee will each receive paint and supplies to cover the fire hydrants and artists with winning designs will receive a $100 stipend.

All submissions are due by September 8, 2014, and artists will be notified of their acceptance by September 15, 2014. Paintings must then be completed by October 10, 2014. A rewards ceremony will be held on October 12, 2014, at the Riverhead County Fair and a "Meet the Artists" reception will be held on October 31, 2014, at the Riverhead Edgar Allen Poe Festival.
