A Hamptons mansion located on Further Lane in East Hampton has been sold for $145 million, making it the highest priced residential sale in the nation. Barry Rosenstein, hedge fund manager of Jana Partners, purchased the beachfront 18-acre estate.

The prime Hamptons real estate was the ultimate escape for Christopher H. Browne, managing director of Tweedy, Browne Company LLC, and his partner, architect Andrew Gordon.

According to the New York Post, Brown passed away in December 2009, and left nearly his entire estate to Gordon. The property was sold without a broker, to avoid paying commissions.

The jaw dropping transaction would top the $120 million sale of a 50-acre Copper Beech Farm in Greenwich, Connecticut.

If Rosenstein needs to borrow a cup of sugar, he could ask one of his notable neighbors like Jerry Seinfeld. Jay-Z and Beyoncé also reportedly purchased a home on Further Lane earlier this year.
