Poets Laureate Read At Canio’s Books In Sag Harbor

In celebration of National Poetry Month, Canio's Books is hosting Poets Laureate Linda Opyr of Nassau and Ed Stever of Suffolk County to read from their work for your pleasure on Saturday, April 13 at 5 p.m.
Nassau County Poet Laureate 2011 -13, Linda Opyr is the author of seven collections of poetry. Her work has appeared in multiple anthologies, newspapers, journals, and magazines, including The New York Times
, The Hudson Review
, The Paterson Literary Review, and The Atlanta Review. Ms. Opyr is much more than a poet however. She also holds a Doctor of Arts degree in English and American Literature from St. John's University, as well as a M. Ed. in Guidance and Psychological Services and a B.S. in Sociology and Psychology from Springfield College. Her most recent collection of poetry, The Ragged Cedar was just published by Writers Ink Press.
Ed Stever also an artist of many talents, he is a poet, playwright, actor and director. He has published two books of poetry Transparency and Propulsion, also with Writers Ink Press and has won numerous writing awards including an Emerging Writers Award at the SoHo Arts Festival in 1996, and Distinguished Graduate Award from Empire State College for Performance and Writing. In 1998, he went on to receive a Pushcart nomination for his poem, "The Purge." Mr. Stever is adjunct professor at Suffolk County Community College
Other upcoming events include a screening at the Bridgehampton Library, hosted by Canio's of 2011 documentary "Pink Smoke Over the Vatican", by Jules Hart about women ordained as Roman Catholic priests on Thursday, April 18, at 5 p.m. Reservations are required as seating is limited. will speaks about his new book "Cutchogue and New Suffolk" at 3 p.m. on Saturday April 20, but stick around after because at 5 p.m. Canio´s is hosting "Speak Up for Earth!" an Earth Day Celebration.
