The Retreat's Annual Juried Art Show, goes to Deer Park resident
Jeanette Martone for "Behind The Fence."
The captivating drawing features a child wearing a hooded jacket and frowning while holding onto a chain link fence. The piece was selected from among 25 entries by jurors which included
Kathryn Markel, owner of the art gallery
Kathryn Markel Fine Arts and
Christina Mossaides Strassfield, Museum Director / Chief Curator of
Guild Hall Museum.
Martone's work will appear in a solo exhibit titled "Hope's Journey," at the
Richard J. Demato Fine Arts Gallery. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. The exhibition will be on display through Thursday, May 9, 2013. Proceeds from sales of art in connection with the Juried Art Show will benefit The Retreat, who support local victims of domestic violence.
The Retreat's Annual Juried Art Show raises both awareness and funding to help prevent the destructive cycle of family violence. Executive Director of The Retreat,

Richard Demato for generously donating this esteemed venue and for helping The Retreat raise critical funds."
