Sag Harbor - This past Sunday, December 19, the tranquil Cormaria Retreat House in Sag Harbor opened its festively decorated door to the general public.

Families with grandparents, mothers and fathers and children filled the spacious dining room and enjoyed holiday time with our favorite nuns in the world. Sister Ann Marino has been the head of this retreat house for over 25 years and is still the most gracious and welcoming hostess on the East End.

Over the past 10 years, three retreat houses on Long Island have closed. Cormaria, which is staffed by members of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, now offers eastern Long Island's only Catholic retreat services.

Cormaria's programs cover a full range of retreat experiences and provide a place of solace and spiritual recovery for more than 4,000 retreat attendees each year, including priests, women religious and lay people. Many of Cormaria's visitors are struggling with personal problems or are recovering from an illness.

Cormaria is a vibrant part of the community, and opens its doors to all. In December and May, it opens its doors to the community, hosting a holiday breakfast and celebrating Mothers' Day in late spring.
