It was just a few years ago that Hamptons billionaire Ira Rennert made headlines when he constructed a $250M home complete with 29-bedrooms, 39-bathrooms, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, sports pavilion, and a power plant over 50-acres in Sagaponack. At 91-feet long his dining room would be an ideal setting for Thanksgiving dinner to say the least. Since then homes across the globe have hit the billion dollar mark, most notably the 27-story, 400,000 square foot residence of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani in Mumbia that reportedly has a staff of 600.

While you won't need a billion dollars to pick up some of the Hamptons priciest pads on the market right now you will need to consider spending at least $45M for the ultimate in luxury a few hours east of New York city. Here are the six most expensive homes in the Hamptons.

Coming in at #6, $45M will buy you a traditional, 12-bedroom, 10-acre spread in Southampton on Ox Pasture Road complete with heated indoor pool (with waterslide), grass tennis court, a state-of-the-art kitchen, and home gym. Originally built in 1915 and meticulously renovated recently this Estate Section home is a mini-resort.

This Actors Colony estate in North Haven is our #5 at $47.5M. The charming manor house built in 1902, known as "Strongheart," is in the center of the compound comprised of three separate lots and a private pond. Beyond the main house there are two separate guesthouses for a total of 12-bedrooms, a 60-foot heated swimming pool, basketball and tennis courst, and plenty of room for entertaining across 19,000 square feet of living space.

Water Mill's "Villa Maria" is #4 on the list of the Hamptons most expensive estates at $49.5M. The waterfront estate was restored to it's 1920s grandeur over six years with all of the modern amenities of a 21st century estate. The 7.6 acre property incldes a 22,000 square foot home, 11-bedrooms inclusive of a 6-room master suite, 60-foot living room, waterside swimming pool, tennis court, and two-bedroom guesthouse.

An oceanfront carriage house with guest house considered a 'development opportunity' on Gin Lane in Southampton is our #3 with a $50M listing price. This 'knock-down' is hardly a run down fixer-upper. The Tudor-style home has gracious lawns and beachfront as well as 12-bedrooms, 9-bathrooms, and 7,300 square feet (with room for a pool and tennis court and the ability to build up to 15,000 squre feet).

With a name like "Angel View" you would expect nothing but spectacular vistas and jaw-dropping features from the #2 most expensive Hamptons home at $65M. Located in Sag Harbor, the 6.5-acre estate includes 500 feet of waterfront over three lots protected by two tremendous gates. The palatial estate sits atop 50ft bluffs and is the perfect spot for those who want to enjoy the water by jet ski, kayak, boat, or in the multi-level infinity-edge swimming pool on property. Coming in at $75M, #1 on our list of the Hamptons most expensive homes on the market right now is a sprawling oceanfront estate in East Hampton just off Lily Pond Lane where neighbors include Steven Speilberg and Martha Stewart. Quaint at 5,500 square feet compared to others on this list, the home has 6-bedrooms and 8-bathrooms. The home boasts the only lighted Har-Tru tennis court in East Hampton Village as well as a coi pond, swimming pool and spa, and a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom guesthouse.

And as a bonus to this list, if you'd rather start from the ground up we found a 9.4-acre patch of oceanfront in Amaganset - a four lot compound - that can be yours for $85M. Dream big!
