The Sylvester Manor
Educational Farm 2019 concert series will continue on Saturday, April 13 with back to back intimate performances from Quebec's Les Poules à Colin in the cozy Music Room of the historic Manor House.
Growing up the members of Les Poules à Colin, which consists of Colin Savoie-Levac, Marie Savoie-Levac, Eleonore Pitre, Beatrix Methe and Sarah Marchand, were privy to a behind the scenes look at folk festivals and intimate gatherings with some of Quebec's finest traditional musicians, which included their parents.
Named after a traditional song, the group's sound is a blend of original and traditional, primarily in French but with some English compositions. Their music pays homage to their Quebecois upbringing, as well as North American influences. The band utilizes fiddle, guitar, lap-steel, banjo, mandolin, piano, bass and foot percussion to offer a unique and modern outlook on traditional Quebec culture. Despite their young age, the band has already been sharing the stage for over nine years.
Les Poules à Colin has performed in major cities and small towns across Canada, the US, Europe, the UK and Australia, and Africa. They embarked on a nine-week tour of Australia (that took them to Port Fairy, The National, The Blue Mountains and Fairbridge folk fest, among others) in 2017, as well as stops in Sweden, USA, Canada, Italy, Germany, Belgium, and UK.
The band's latest album, Morose
, was "inspired by the raw and pure aspect of Quebec musical traditions while combining contemporary sounds animated by energy, desires and the angst of our modern society."
"Get ready world, this group is already really, really good and on its way to greatness!" Edinburgh Fringe Festival notes, while Songlines Magazine
says, "Hailing from top traditional musical stock, what especially elevates this group is the musicians' conscious modernity; the sum of its parts is very 21st century."†
