Southampton Arts Center (SAC) is celebrating Memorial Day weekend with a special social distancing-friendly happening - a throwback movie experience at the
Coopers Beach parking lot in
Southampton Village.
On Saturday, May 23, SAC will host a Drive-In screening of the 1981
Steven Spielberg classic,
Raiders of the Lost Ark. The viewing will commence at sundown - approximately 8:30 p.m.
"Embarking on our 8th year, Southampton Arts Center provides artistic and cultural programming to bring our vibrant community together and support the economic vitality of our village," shared Southampton Arts Center Founding Co-Chair Simone Levinson, who along with David Levinson made the event possible.
In the first installment of the
Indiana Jones franchise,
Raiders of the Lost Ark follows Indiana Jones (Harrison
Ford) as the archaeologist attempts to retrieve a unique religious relic before a band of Nazis finds it and utilizes the relic in their plans for world domination.
Admission is $50 per car and advance reservations are required to ensure safe, contactless entry.
The SAC
Raiders of the Lost Ark screening will also serve as a Food Drive supporting
Heart of the Hamptons, a Southampton-based non-profit organization offering a Food Pantry, Clothing Room, and General Assistance programs. Movie-goers are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to donate.
"We are excited to work with Southampton Arts Center to launch drive-in movies in the Village. We applaud SAC's Founding Co-Chairs Simone Levinson and
J. Whitney Stevens, Tom Dunn, Amy Kirwin, and Godfrey Palaia for responding quickly and safely," Southampton Village Mayor
Jesse Warren said. "This will be a phenomenal event for our community and we are proud to be part of it."
The
Cooper's Beach parking lot will open at 7 p.m. Attendees must stay in their cars and follow physical distancing guidelines. The film's audio will be accessed on the FM dial. (Rain Date: Sunday, 5/24)
"After two months of isolating and separation we are delighted to host this drive-in movie and food drive as a nostalgic feel-good event to enjoy with family and friends, as we safely re-emerge from this tumultuous time together," Levinson noted.
To ensure contactless entry, attendees must post a printout of their confirmation and place it in their car window or have it on the screen of their mobile phone upon arrival.
