On Saturday, December 16, the Southampton Arts Center
(SAC) ends its LIVE from SAC
series for 2017 with Afro-Cuban Jazz Night with Oscar Feldman.
The event starts at 7 p.m. and features many other talented musicians.
"This concert is a tribute to the many musicians who have contributed to Afro Cuban Jazz, such as Chico O'Farrill, Dizzy Gillespie, Mario Bauza, Tito Puente and Cal Tjader," said Claes Brondal, of The Jam Session, who will serve as the drummer for the event. "The music will appeal to the heart and soul of both young and old."
Oscar Feldman will be playing saxophone. He will be joined by Frank Lacy on trombone, Ian MacDonald on piano, Essiet Essiet on bass, and Brondal on drums.
"We are excited to close out 2017 with an impressive lineup of talented musicians," shared Amy Kirwin, Director of Programs at SAC. "Southampton Arts Center has been so fortunate to partner with The Jam Session to co-present these incredible concerts, and we are looking forward to returning in February with another impressive lineup expertly put together by Claes Brondal."
Feldman is an accomplished musician and Argentinian native who grew up within the prominent music scene of his hometown. He eventually became a founding member of the band Los Musicos del Centro, and moved to Buenos Aires where he would record over 40 albums and receive countless awards. Since moving to New York, he has toured with many talented musicians and performed internationally in some of the most prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center, the Opera Vienna House, and in jazz festivals around the world. Currently, Feldman teaches music at the New York Jazz Academy and often holds weekly jam classes in the city.
The event is presented with The Jam Session, a not-for-profit organization created by Mr. Brondal and located in Sag Harbor. Its mission is to keep live Jazz alive, educate, promote music appreciation, and embrace music diversity.
"[LIVE from SAC]
is a celebration of the unique sound and development that shook up jazz 70 years ago," explained Brondal. "Cuban and jazz music have maintained a healthy marriage through the political challenges of the past 50 years and continues to evolve to this day."
