Mortified Live Teams Up With Hamptons Museum To "Share The Shame"

We've all had them (and the holiday season seems to exacerbate them). A super awkward encounter with your childhood crush. A family member that isn't afraid to ask you anything in front of the rest of your family, even if it's ridiculously embarrassing. An instant that seems like an epically tragic mistake with "the cool kids" watching. After the shades of red leave your face and maybe a few days (or years) pass, hopefully, eventually you'll be able to look back and find the humor in your most uncomfortable moments. If not, you can share a laugh with Jill Domanski, David Lawson, Jessica Werheimer, Nisse Greenberg, and Parrish Art Museum Visitor Services & Museum Programs Manager Amy Kirwin, when the Parrish and Mortified NYC team up for an East End performance of The Hamptons Get Mortified, Vol. 2, on Friday, December 4th, at 6 p.m.

During the long-running, live storytelling event, participants will have the audience in hysterics as they talk about their childhood writings, art, and more. Kirwin will even share secrets from her teenage diary. Mortified organizers say the project is "a comic excavation of the strange and extraordinary things we created as kids..."

Neil Katcher and David Nadelberg founded Mortified in 2002 after coming across an undelivered adolescent letter of adoration. They emailed a few friends to find out if any of them would be interested in reliving their youth on stage, and the email went viral. More than a decade after its inception, participants, ranging from advertising executives to attorneys to actors, are still jumping at the chance to "share the shame." Mortified attendees have heard tales that cover everything from a first kiss to a first puff to prom disasters to life at Bible camp to reasons why the speaker should top the list of candidates to marry Jon Bon Jovi (a girl can dream). "There are a million stories buried in the pages of people's lives," noted Mortified. "Our mission is to help people find them." This year's lineup at the Parrish will include several veteran Mortified NYC presenters.

Admission to The Hamptons Get Mortified, Vol. 2 is $10, but free for Museum members.

Parrish Art Museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway in Water Mill. For more information, call 631-283-2118 or visit parrishart.org.
