After working with The Neo-Political Cowgirls, in partnership with HamptonsFilm, a group of talented East Hampton High School girls are showcasing shorts they created during Girls' Gaze.

"Girls' Gaze, in its pilot launch, is in the spirit of our already successful Dude's Eye View program that's headed into its third year at East Hampton High School," Kate Mueth, The Neo-Political Cowgirls Founder, relayed. "It is a place for young women to come together in conversation, idea-sharing, creative problem solving and space-making for friendship."

Girls' Gaze was presented at the East Hampton High School this past fall. The six-week program challenged the group to utilize storytelling and filmmaking to explore and express their feelings.

"These programs are unique because it is using conversation and creative story telling via short films as a coping mechanism that encourages participants to dig and explore how they show up for themselves and one another," Mueth noted. "It inspires them to use creative arts to help process and clarify what is happening around them and in their lives, and encourages them to step INTO challenges instead of stepping away in fear."

The Girls' Gaze Film Screening will take place at LTV Studios in East Hampton on Thursday, January 16.

"This program has an outcome of short films, but the PROCESS is where we apply the focus and primary meaning," Mueth said. "To understand that HOW we maneuver through our lives is possibly even more important than the places we reach is, we find, highly helpful in helping youth (and adults!) to thrive, to be happy, and to feel enriched on a very deep level."

Mueth and The Neo-Political Cowgirls lead a myriad of creative workshops for youth throughout the year to allow participants to examine what's on their mind and how it translates to the arts.

"Girls' Gaze carves out a direct correlation in the girls' views in life to the moving images they will be sharing," Mueth shared. "There is so much for our community to get to know about our girls through what they will be sharing on the 16th."

The filmmakers will take part in a Q&A following the viewing. There will also be a celebratory reception.

"The program had approximately 18 participants and the films touch on friendship, humor, loneliness and more," Mueth concluded.

The screening will take place at 6 p.m. There is no fee to attend.

LTV Studios is located at 75 Industrial Road in Wainscott. For more information, visit www.npcowgirls.org.
