Theater can change lives! Bay Street Theater
and Sag Harbor Center of the Arts is pleased to offer a special showing of Chapter & Verse
to benefit Impact Repertory Theater and the Eastville Community Historical Society. You can partake in an afternoon of entertainment and philanthropy on Sunday, September 25th, starting at 2 p.m. There will also be a Q&A with Jamal Joseph following the showing.
Joseph is an Oscar-nominated writer, activist, former Black Panther and 2015 Purpose Prize Winner. He has directed a show that tenderly looks at cycles of violence and second chances within the black community.

Daniel Beaty stars in the film and also played an integral role in writing it with Joseph. Emmy
winner Loretta Devine and Omari Hardwick - who can currently be seen in Starz
- also star in the production. Produced by the Harlem Film Company, Chapter & Verse
powerfully shows the effect of drugs and crime on society, as well as celebrates the redemptive nature of art. Chapter & Verse
was screened at the Human Rights Film Festival at Lincoln Center last June. This East End showing is not one to miss this fall.
"A very good, intelligent, and affecting piece of film realism that has tough politics and debunks some sentimental ideas about 'the black community.' One almost never sees anything like that ... it's a very strong film ... It is definitely going to be on my ten best list this year," remarked Amy Taubin.
Audience members will certainly walk away from the evening with a new insight into some of the most prevalent topics of today.
"Chapter & Verse
is so intimate a portrait of a black man many of us know only as a statistic that one wonders while watching the movie if the story is about an uncelebrated, local hero," noted Maria Garcia of Film Journal International.
Student tickets for those 18-years-old and under are $10 and General Admission is $25. There will also be a reserved seat and cocktail reception at a private home with Jamal Joseph and young star and Impact graduate, Khadim Diop, for $125.
All proceeds will benefit Impact Repertory Theater - a group of youth activists who believe the creative arts and leadership training can assist in development and make and impact on the world in a beneficial way - and the Eastville Community Historical Society - whose mission is "to preserve historic buildings and research, collect and disseminate information about the history of the Eastville area of Sag Harbor." The public is encouraged to attend and to bring children of high school age and older.
Bay Street Theater is located at 1 Bay Street in Sag Harbor. For more information, call 631-725-9500 or visit www.baystreet.org.
