In anticipation of its exciting summer programming, The Art Barge is hosting Founders Day on Sunday, May 19.

"To usher in what has been the first week of classes beginning in June for nearly sixty years, we celebrate Founders Day in honor of Mabel and Victor D'Amico, whose pioneering philosophies and practices in art education are not only at the core of our mission but have influenced generations of educators, students, and artists worldwide," Esperanza Leon, Administrative Coordinator, The Victor D'Amico Institute of Art / The Art Barge, shared.

From 2 to 4 p.m., attendees can explore the site, learn about the Barge's historic past, find out what the summer will bring, admire the stunning landscape, and checkout the Barge's summer exhibition, Four Glass Artists, which will be on view through September 7. The exhibition showcases the work of local glass artists Hokansen+Dix, Andy Stenerson, and Marianne Weil.

"The summer exhibition of Four Glass Artists brings attention to local talents who use glass as a creative medium," Leon noted. "On view at the former home of Mabel and Victor D'Amico in Lazy Point, Amagansett, the exhibition complements the permanent display of artworks by Mabel who explored the possibilities of glass in her own manner."

The Art Barge's summer programming launches on June 3 and runs through September 13.

The summer season will encompass a variety of options, including weekly Studio Painting classes and Watercolor, Pastel, Collage, Encaustic, and Printmaking workshops. Two Photography classes, including The Photography of Place and Environmental Photography, will be offered. Painting on Location returns and locations will include a private Sagaponack property and Madoo Conservancy. Ceramics will be highlighted in June, while 3D workshops dabbling in Mosaics, Stained Glass, Fused Glass, Weaving, Casting, and Mixed Media will be offered in July and August.

A duo of exclusive classes will be featured in June and July. The first, led by Fritz Horstman, an artist/educator from the Albers Foundation, will take place June 17-21. Participants will dive into space, light, shadows, thread, color, and more through exercises connected to Josef Albers's color course, Anni Albers's weaving, and Moholy-Nagy's material studies. In July, artists can un-learn redetermined ideas of sculpture, painting, drawing, and more with museum educator and D'Amico scholar, Sara Torres.

Students can keep their creative juices flowing with the Children's Studio (ages 6-11) during six weeks in July (8-26) and August (5-23), Children's Photography, and See How You Feel: An Introduction to Photography (ages 11 to 15).

The Art Carnival is back at The Art Barge from June 3 to June 16.

The beloved Artists Speak series will take place once a month, June to August. The Wednesday evening summer discussions will revolve around the theme of Collaborations. Guests will include Kris Moran and A.S. Hamrah (June 19), Emilia and Ilya Kabakov (July 17), and Maira and Alex Kalman (August 14).

The Art Barge is located at 110 Napeague Meadow Road in Amagansett. For more information, visit theartbarge.org.
