LIVE from SAC,
a concert series that brings an eclectic mix of artists together, is returning to Southampton Arts Center
(SAC) this fall.
"This popular series with Jam Session finally returns to kick off another season of live music with world-renowned artists," shared Claes Brondal of The Jam Session, Inc.
The series will relaunch on Saturday, October 14 with South African All-Stars
- featuring Bakithi Kumalo
, Morris Goldberg
, David Bravo
, and Diego Urcola. Goldberg is recognized as one of the early pioneers of Cape Jazz, along with Dollar Brand and Chris McGregor. Kumalo, who recently had a residency at East End Arts
, is the longtime bassist for Paul Simon
. Urcola is a three‑time Grammy nominee, who has been a member of the Paquito D'Rivera
Quintet since 1991. Bravo, a member of CBS
recording act SHY TALK, has shared the stage with or recorded with Harry Belafonte
, Jack Bruce (Cream), Debbie Harry, Bo Diddley
, and Hugh Masekela. Brondal will accompany the musicians on drums.
"All concerts are recorded live to be aired at a later date on WPPB, your local NPR
Station," added Brondal.
Next, on Saturday, November 4, a World Music Collective
- featuring Salieu Suso on Kora and Natu Camara on vocal - will highlight the duo's music collective, which is rooted in the funk and groove tradition. The musicians formed a partnership back in 2014, and since then they have shared the stage and "constantly evolving their eclectic musical vocabulary." At SAC, they will present "authentic world music, storytelling, and funky grooves." Dan Lauter (on sax), Stan Wright (on bass) and Brondal (on drums) will also be featured.
The final LIVE from SAC
of the year will take place on Saturday, December 16. An Afro-Cuban Jazz Night
will be headlined by Oscar Feldman, Essiet Okon Essiet, Ian MacDonald, Freddie Hendrix, and Claes Brondal.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and complimentary refreshments will be provided by Union Cantina
prior to each concert, which begins at 7 p.m.
