The Parrish Art Museum
and Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival
(BMCF) will be co-presenting two concerts this August that were inspired by the Museum's upcoming Unfinished Business: Paintings from the 1970s and 1980s by Ross Bleckner, Eric Fischl, and David Salle
exhibition. The back-to-back performances at the Parrish, which mark the third year the Museum and BMCF have collaborated, will take place on Monday, August 15th at 4:30 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m.
The concerts will feature music from BCMF Founder/Musical Director/flautist Marya Martin
, violinists Amy Schwartz Moretti and Alexander Sitkovetsky, violist Cynthia Phelps, cellist Carter Brey, and pianist Orion Weiss. All of the musicians will explore work, which is "unfinished," in congruence with the Unfinished Business
"We were inspired by the Parrish Art Museum's exhibit to create a program that looks at the many ways that you might consider a piece to be 'unfinished.' That could be taken literally - Schubert only completed the first movement of the gorgeous string trio we will perform, or figuratively in the case of Arvo Pärt's Fratres,
which has many different versions, all unique but related," said BCMF Artistic Director, Marya Martin. "In the case of Elizabeth Brown's Lost Waltz,
she plays with the idea of an old dance form, transforming it for modern ears, and John Harbison takes an assignment that was given to Schubert and completes it almost 200 years later."
The Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival is Long Island's longest running classical musical festival, and will celebrate its 33rd season this August. The Summer Festival presents twelve concerts and some 40 renowned musicians, as well as a new three-concert Spring Series.
Tickets for the concerts are $35 for non-members and $30 for members. Advanced reservations are encouraged.
Parrish Art Museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway in Water Mill. For more information on the concerts, or to purchase tickets, contact the Parrish at 631-283-2118 or visit parrishart.org.
