The Southampton Artists Association's (SAA) annual Winter Art Exhibition will debut on Wednesday, February 17. "It is the first of our four yearly exhibits at the Levitas Center for the Arts at the Southampton Cultural Center," Southampton Artists Association board member Paul Dempsey shared.

The exhibition will remain on view at Southampton Cultural Center through Sunday, March 14, and a selection of the works will also be available to view virtually at Southampton Artists Association's website. As per usual, a variety of mediums will be highlighted, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and more - all of which will be available to purchase at affordable prices.

The 2021 iteration will feature more than 30 participating artists, including Bobby Alan, Jean Arena, Agnes Bristel, Ian Carson, Luciana Cavalcanti, Jody Cukier, Paul Dempsey, Matthew DiBernardo, Danny Dolan, Anna Franklin, Robin Gianis, Helen Giaquinto, Joseph Giaquinto, Aubrey Grainger, Victoria Hartman, Arline Hershberg, Wilhelmina Howe, Dave Johns, Murray Karn, AnnMarie LaFace, Dom Lamontanaro, Danielle Leef, Marie Lombardi, Ann Lombardo, Anthony Lombardo, Kenna Mackay, Jean Mahoney, Henry Mangels, Jim McGarvey, Michael McLaughlin, Dee McMeekan, Kathleen Milliken, Danny Moulton, John Randolph, Sophie Sejourne, Neva Setlow, James Slezak, Frank Sofo, Robeert Sullivan, Pamela Thomson, Aurelio Torres, Maureen Travers, Pamela Vossen, and James Witker.

Additionally, many of the Winter Art Exhibition artists will be championing Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation's (SASF) Spay-ghetti Fundraiser on Saturday, February 27 and Sunday, February 28. "I received the announcement and request for donations email from Vanessa at the Shelter. Being a two time cat adopter and volunteer, I thought I would reach out to the SAA artists," Dempsey explained. "It was warmly received and over a dozen artists and counting have made or pledged a donation."

Held in-house at the SASF shelter, this year's Spay-ghetti will feature a gift certificate to Scottos (redeemable until March 14) for a spaghetti dinner with two meatballs (optional), salad and bread, a cupcake from Cathy Cupcakes, and two raffle tickets for SASF's auction, which will be held via eBay. Gift certificates can be picked up from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Proceeds from the benefit support SASF's Advo-Cats TNR (trap/neuter/release) program, which helps spay and neuter hundreds of cats annually. SAA members have also taken part in Southampton Art Center's Storefront Art Program, which launched this past summer. The Project showcases East End artists whose art installations beautify vacant Village shops.

"I am thrilled that our organization is feeling such a sense of community," he concluded.

Unfortunately, there will not be a reception for the Winter Art Exhibition this year due to the pandemic.

The Winter Art Exhibition will be on view Friday and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday through Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

CDC guidelines for social distancing will be followed and only 20 exhibit-goers will be permitted in the gallery at a time. Masks are required.

SAA is comprised of local professional and amateur artists. Along with the Winter Art Exhibition, the not for profit artists association presents a Memorial Day Show, Labor Day Show, and Fall Art Show at SCC. Members' works are also highlighted during a collective members show at the Town Hall in Southampton during December and January, as well as during the July fine outdoor art show, Art in the Park, held at Agawam Park in Southampton.

Levitas Center for the Arts at the Southampton Cultural Center is located at 25 Pond Lane in Southampton. For more information, visit southamptonartists.org.
