"DNA Paintings," "Spring Break," And "Transparent" Among Gallery's Online Art Offerings

Nicole Barylski

Kathryn Markel Fine Arts - which has outposts in Bridgehampton and Manhattan - has unveiled its latest exhibition, DNA Paintings, an online show featuring new works by Deborah Zlotsky.

Zlotsky's vibrant abstract paintings touch upon 1960s psychedelia, as well as the "graphic boldness" of Pop painting. "On a broader level, I'm fascinated by the way history evolves through the accumulation of actions and reactions—in the way complexities are built over time through the accidents that get baked in," the artist noted.

Her latest works encompass vivid, pared-down geometric compositions that are "both timeless and contemporary," complimented by the artist's signature use of color and shape.

"In these new paintings, I limited my focus to include only two connecting shapes," Zlotsky explained. "I was thinking about my elderly parents in particular and the coincidences of one's DNA. The unique configuration of scale, shape, color, and space in each painting refers to both the unlikelihood and the generative intricacy in even the simplest of unions."

Zlotsky, who has a BA in the History of Art from Yale University and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Connecticut, earned a 2019 Guggenheim Fellowship and NYFA Artist Fellowships in Painting in 2012 and 2018. Her work has been highlighted in public, private and corporate collections in the US and across the globe. The artist has also taken part in residencies at MacDowell, Yaddo, and Bogliasco Foundation, among others. She also teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Additionally, Kathryn Markel Fine Arts is showcasing Transparent and Spring Break as part of its online offerings.

Transparent, which focuses on transparencies in art, boasts art from Sarah Irvin, Ky Anderson, Eric Blum, Daniel Brice, Jeffrey Cortland Jones, Gudrun Mertes-Frady, Annette Davidek, Laura Fayer Ana Zanic, and Debra Smith.

Spring Break brings spring straight to your computer, phone, tablet, or top device for consumption. Works from Katie DeGroot, Susan English, Sydney Licht, Lisa Breslow, Yolanda Sanchez, Josette Urso, Stephen Pentak, Maeve D'Arcy, Annette Davidek, Susan Hambleton, Stanley Bielen, Stephanie London, Marilla Palmer, Nancy Cohen, Jeri Eisenberg, Elissa Gore, Denise Regan, and Sara MacCulloch Marsh will be on display.
