The 9th annual Hamptons Juried Art Show: Fresh StART Collective
will make its debut on Saturday, May 19 during a complimentary cocktail reception at the RJD Gallery in Bridgehampton. The celebratory soiree will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. and include entertainment by the Bridgehampton High School Marimba Band, led by David Elliott.
Maria Jimenez's Ms. Greene.
Held in partnership with The Retreat
, this year's theme pays homage to the work of the East End's sole domestic violence agency - who support clients as they try to break the cycle of family violence and make a fresh start.
Over 70 artists from 17 states and five countries submitted works to be featured during this year's open call. Of those entries, 18 finalists were selected by Richard Demato
, art dealer, collector, and owner of the RJD Gallery, and Margaret Bowland, artist and faculty member at the New York Academy of Art
, who served as the show's jurors.
"We hope to raise awareness and funding for an essential and worthy non-profit," Demato explained. "We thank the many artists and individuals who support this cause, as without them, it simply could not happen."
The 2018 Hamptons Juried Art Show
will encompass works by Barbara Abeltina of Latvia, Paige Bradley of Connecticut, Teresa Brutcher of Spain, Tracey Ellis-Haynes of Ohio, Lani Emanuel of California, Rose Freymuth-Frazier of New York, Carol Glassman of New York, Dana Hawk of New York, Maria Jimenez of New York, Shana Levenson of New Mexico, Rachel Linnemeir of Arizona, Jatina Peperkamp of Netherlands, Nadine Robbins of New York, Harmonia Rosales of Illinois, Sara Scribner of Oklahoma, Shane Scribner of Oklahoma, Lesley Thiel of North Carolina, and Anna Wypch of Poland.

The Retreat, which was founded in 1987, provides domestic violence services and education to those that reside on the East End. Its offerings include a residential shelter for adults and children, a 24-hour domestic violence hotline, individual and group counseling, legal advocacy for all victims of domestic violence, programs for fathers who may be at-risk of committing family violence, and an in-school violence prevention education program for local area schools - all of which The Retreat presents at no cost. Last year alone The Retreat answered 3,467 hotline calls, offered 3,110 counseling sessions - 25 percent of which was to children, reached 5,702 students through preventative outreach programming, and provided 4,870 safe nights at its shelter.
In addition to Hamptons Juried Art Show: Fresh StART Collective
, The Retreat is hosting its annual All Against Abuse Gala
on Saturday, June 9 at The Muses in Southampton.
