Brooklyn-based artist Andrew Brischler is presenting his pop-up exhibition Hungry Heart on Friday, July 27 at the Madoo Conservancy from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition, in partnership with Sentient Jet and presented by Sotheby's, will be on public view through Sunday, July 29.

Brischler is known for his bold, energetic works on panel using exclusively colored pencil. Brischler's work investigates the intersection of graphic design and abstraction through his devotion to drawing. The works will flawlessly compliment the idyllic location of the Madoo Conservancy.

"Working with Sotheby's to bring this exhibition to life has been a joy," reflected Brischler. "After looking at several other venues throughout the area, once we found Madoo, the entire show clicked into focus for me. The buildings and gardens are so magical, so evocative, and so otherworldly; seeing my work in this space has brought an entirely new dimension to my practice."

Brischler painstakingly renders words, phrases, and fragments of typography, leaving areas unfinished and purposely battered. The materials used in his works are sourced from a wide swath of cultural references including book covers, vintage film posters, ephemera from long-out-of-print queer publications, and digital imagery in the age of social media.

This particular exhibition, Hungry Heart, features nine new works, each signifying the artist's own anxious feelings about our particular sociopolitical moment. Using language from a wide range of quintessentially American figures such as Bruce Springsteen, Donna Summer, and Tennessee Williams as jumping off points, each work is meant to confront the viewer with a sense of nostalgia, confusion, and seduction.

"Big thanks to my friend David Rothschild at Sotheby's for his hard to realize this show, and special thanks for my dealer, Sarah Gavlak for her passion and cooperation," said Brischler.
