Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, art dealer Max Levai, Tripoli Gallery owner Tripoli Patterson
, design agency Bean.la, and collector Bob Rubin have created the Alone Gallery, a series of exhibitions that will last for eight weeks between June 17th and August 10th.
This unique program can be best explained by Patterson, who shared, "As tough as these last few months may have been, I have noticed many instances where people are focusing more on what's right in front of them, being more attentive to their immediate existences. Alone Gallery is about that."
Alone Gallery will be housed in Tripoli Gallery's new Wainscott location, featuring five exhibitions (also known as spotlights) that will be made up of short solo presentations and dynamic pairings of well-known artists. Alex Katz
(whose work will be on view from June 17th through 28th) and Tony Matelli (whose work will be on view from June 30th through July 7th) have the honor of being the first two spotlights.
This gallery reflects and responds to the pandemic as it is the first of its kind to be experienced in isolation. There will be no gallery staff present, only cameras, leaving visitors completely alone to enjoy the art for 30 minutes. Visitors will receive a text message the day of their appointment with a code, disabling the alarm. Next, guests can scan a bar code outside the gallery to get information about each piece of work and then punch in their code on a keypad upon entrance. The gallery asks that visitors do not touch the artwork and keep a safe distance. To follow the exhibits online or to learn more about the programming go to Alone Gallery's website.
"I have noticed our visitors not taking their appointments or seeing art in person for granted," Patterson added.
To visit the Alone Gallery, guests must sign up for a 30-minute time slot at www.alonegallery.com
Every night, the space will be cleaned and sanitized.
Alone Gallery is located at 26 Ardsley Road in Wainscott. Visitors with questions, schedule changes, or inquiries can reach staff at email@example.com or at (631)337-3715.
