Guild Hall is now accepting submissions to the Guild House Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Program, open to early career artists in the visual, literary, and performing art. Submissions are open until Friday, November 10, 2017. This residency was founded in 2016 as a means to extend Guild Hall's mission of fostering the artistic spirit of the East End. By bringing early career artists to the region and providing a foundation for their development, Guild House AIR supports the future generations and encourages all artistic contributions.

Guild House is not a studio-based program, but rather provides the time and space for reflection and the development of supportive and collaborative relationships. The program will continue to host the weekly Salon Dinners that provide an opportunity for the residents to connect with leading artists and community leaders to discuss many topical subjects as well as the arts.

"This year the Artist-in-Residence program features a spring and fall 4-week session. Residents will be encouraged to utilize Guild House as a medium for temporary exhibitions, installations, performances, and creative interventions," remarked Barbara Jo Howard, Director of Marketing & Communications at Guild Hall. "The spring session will run from April 2 through April 30 and the fall from October 22 through November 19."

Guild House AIR 2018 will focus on the physical structure of Guild House, located adjacent to Guild Hall. The House serves as a place for temporary exhibition, installation, performance, and creative interventions. Residents are encouraged to collaborate or singly to stage environments, readings, or performances, and to further seek imaginative uses of the house in meaningful but impermanent ways that reflect on their work during the program.

Guild House AIR applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of established artists and writers, creative professionals, and members of Guild Hall's Academy of the Arts, which includes many of the leading literary, performing, visual, and media artists of our time. Previous selection committee members, include Paul Goldberger, Ralph Gibson, Stephen Hamilton Robert Pinsky, Dava Sobel, Frederic Tuten, and Carrie Mae Weems. The AIR program operates under the founding vision of Eric Fischl, Academy of the Arts President, artist, and longtime resident of the East End of Long Island.

Selected residents will be announced on Friday, December 1. AIR is open to artists 21 years and older. To be considered as a candidate, artists should demonstrate a level of professionalism in one of the following disciplines: visual, performing, or literary arts. Four residents are selected for each session.

In 2018, applications can choose from two sessions and each resident will have a private room in the Guild House. Each resident will receive $1,000 stipend and eight Hampton Jitney bus tickets for four round trips to New York City. Residents are expected to provide their own transportation to New York City from their home city. Each week a Salon Dinner will be provided as well as discounts for meals at nearby restaurants. Otherwise, residents are responsible for their own breakfast, lunch, and dinner. During the residency, artists are required to be on site for at least five days per week. Residents will have the opportunity to present and discuss their work in Guild Hall's John Drew Theater at the conclusion of the residency. At this time, no family, companions, or pets are permitted to reside at Guild House.

Guild Hall is located at 158 Main Street in East Hampton. For more information, contact Corey Jane Cardoso, Guild Hall AIR Administrator, at air@guildhall.org or call 631-324-0806. Applications can be submitted at guildhall.com.
