Chef Daniel Boulud's Sunday Supper Raises The Equivalent Of 112,150 Meals For Citymeals

"It is a thrill to come together with friends each year for a special Sunday Supper benefiting Citymeals," expressed Citymeals-on-Wheels Board of Directors Co-President Chef Daniel Boulud. "I feel fortunate to be able to open up my restaurant and raise money for the purpose of nourishing our frail aged neighbors who cannot shop and cook for themselves."

On Sunday, March 8th, 150 philanthropic attendees indulged in a spectacular late-winter menu showcasing black truffles during the 18th annual Sunday Supper at Restaurant Daniel. Hosted by Chef Daniel Boulud, "Black Truffles and Blue Jeans" raised $720,000 for Citymeals-on-Wheels, which is the equivalent of 112,150 meals for the organization.

To prepare the one-of-a-kind meal, Chef Boulud was accompanied by Chef Jacques Chibois from La Bastide Saint Antoine in Grasse, France, as well as Chef Markus Glocker of Bâtard Restaurant and Chef Gabriel Kreuther, who prepared canapés. Diners were treated to an extravagant menu featuring warm Maine sea scallops layered with winter black truffle, young leeks, pickled pioppini, spicy watercress; scallops donated by Day Boat Fresh; red mullet, chickpea socca, lemon emulsion, black truffles; Rouget donated by Pierless Fish; and Allen Brother's Wagyu beef tenderloin, eggplant, vegetable mosaic, parmesan-black truffle sauce; beef donated by The Chefs' Warehouse.

"Chef Boulud has proven, once again, that his talent is matched only by his compassion," noted Beth Shapiro, Executive Director of Citymeals. "As a result of his generosity and that of everyone here, Citymeals will continue to provide sustenance and companionship for our most vulnerable neighbors who so desperately need it. Thank you to the chefs, event chair and vice chairs, auctioneer, DANIEL staff and all of our guests here tonight for supporting our mission."

Citymeals is a New York City-based nonprofit organization that works with community-based meal centers to prepare and deliver over 2 million weekend, holiday, and emergency meals for 18,000 homebound elderly New Yorkers every year.
