The Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation
hosted their annual Gala on Saturday, August 6th on the Playhouse grounds. The sold-out fundraiser had over 400 people in attendance and featured a high-energy concert by Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue
(underwritten by The Surf Lodge
), that brought the crowd to the dance floor. The event was highlighted by drummer Chad Smith
of the Red Hot Chili Peppers jumping in for an amazing rendition of RHCP's Give It Away
— to the delight of the crowd.
Guests enjoyed a great New Orleans-inspired meal, with a raw bar compliments of The Montauk Shellfish Company
, and wine/spirits/beer from Montauk Rumrunners, Montauk Brewing Co., and Stonecrop wine.
"Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue put on an amazing show at the incredibly successful 2016 Gala for the Playhouse," said Susan Henkin, Executive Director of the Montauk Community Center Foundation. "The crowd represented the diverse Montauk community, who came together for great food, drink and fun."
The impressive live auction included a visit to the set of Showtime
's Montauk-based show, The Affair,
a private shopping party with designer Cynthia Rowley
, and a private surf lesson with pro Mikey DeTemple. A drum set was also among items, and Smith even offered to set up the signed drum set and give a private lesson to the highest bidder.

This year, the Gala honored Montauk residents George F. Biondo and Perry B. Duryea III, for their philanthropic commitment to the community and the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation.
The Gala was presented in support of the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation's fundraising efforts to construct an Aquatic Center and community spaces in the unfinished half of the historic Montauk Playhouse.
