Hudson River Health Care And Wölffer Estate Vineyard Hosting "Honoring The Hands" Virtual Wine Tasting

Lee Fryd

The virtual cocktail party, our favorite excuse to not drink alone, is one of our happier quarantine consequences. On Friday, June 26 at 6:30 PM, Hudson River Health Care (HRHCare) and Wölffer Estate Vineyard will take that up a few notches, with a virtual wine tasting, "Honoring the Hands," to benefit Hudson River Health Care's COVID-19 response. Attendee hands will be holding three perennial summer favorites: Wölffer's Noblesse Oblige Sparkling Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, and Summer in a Bottle Rosé, for which the Vineyard is known.

When COVID-19 hit the Hamptons, the community turned to Hudson River Health Care to helm pop up testing centers: in Southampton, East Hampton and Riverhead. A cross section of the community have gone. It has never been clearer: we have to protect everyone to protect ourselves.

The event will highlight Roman Roth, head winemaker and partner at Wölffer Estate Vineyard, talking about each wine, including pairing suggestions and vineyard anecdotes. You can take those stories to your next virtual and/or actual soiree. Register (now) at hrhcare.org/events, to save shipping fees.

"We've held this event for many years, on North or South Forks," Jeramie Barber, the Executive Director of HRHCare Foundation, told us. "This will be our second year partnering with Wölffer. In the past, it's been to help cover costs of migrant farm workers, who pay on a sliding scale fee based on ability. We primarily service people that are at or below the poverty line and care for many minorities. Many times they're uninsured and we also help get them covered. This year, we're expanding to cover COVID-19 care."

"We serve 245,000 patients throughout Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island, specifically the Suffolk County area. In our 43 health centers, we provide ambulatory services with various specialties. We always provide primary care. Different centers also provide dental, optometry, behavioral health, addiction services, HIV specialty care, family and women's health, and other specialties."

People who have COVID-19 symptoms or exposure are encouraged to be tested. Many service providers are living in close quarters. "We're trying to pay close attention to that," Barber continued, "to make certain there is not a spread." The good news is: the number testing positive have gone down in the Hamptons.

So drink, give and save lives. In this case, especially, since it could be your own.

A Virtual Tasting Room Spot (per household) is $250.
