Winter Dance Party To Support Project MOST

Nicole Barylski

Project MOST is closing out January by heating up the Hamptons with Turn It Up!, a Salsa and Dance Music Party.

On Saturday, January 25, Springs Tavern (15 Fort Pond Boulevard, East Hampton) will be a buzz during the Project MOST fête, which will feature music from DJ XQ, who will keep attendees grooving all night long.

"We are welcoming everyone to come dance and help Project MOST, while doing it,'' Rebecca Taylor, Executive Director of Project MOST, shared.

The lively gathering will take place from 9 to 11:59 p.m.

"We are supporting the organization because of how important they are to the community, and all the families that benefit from them," Charlene Simmons DeSmet of Springs Tavern added.

Admission to Turn It Up! is a $20 donation at the door and all proceeds benefit Project MOST.

Project MOST, which was founded in 2000 under the umbrella of East Hampton Day Care, offers essential after school care. Since its inception, the non-profit organization has impacted nearly 6,000 local elementary school students from the Springs Public School and John M. Marshall Elementary School in East Hampton, offering a variety of enriching programming and also academic assistance programs.

Additionally, the organization, which recently debuted programming at The Neighborhood House (92 Three Mile Harbor Road, East Hampton), is hosting two open houses at their new site. The first will take place on Thursday, January 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. and another will be held on Sunday, February 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. The two afternoons will feature complimentary activities for little ones, including hands-on activities like mosaics, printmaking, STEM, and Afro-Caribbean Dance workshops, as well as performances from Keith Leaf, who will showcase stilt walking and other circus arts, Anita Boyer, who will highlight the basics of tap dance, and The Popsicles, a family friendly band comprised of musicians Job Potter, Steven Skoldberg, and Eugenia Zilberberg.

A jam-packed schedule of classes will be offered at The Project MOST Community Learning Center at The Neighborhood House starting mid-February. The workshops for children and families will be held on weekday afternoons and evenings, during school vacations, on Saturdays, and in the summer. A myriad of topics will be covered, including visual arts, STEM, dance, music, cooking, yoga, environmental education, and martial arts. Project MOST will also present an affordable, small group academic assistance program that focuses on reinforcing and boasting literacy skills for students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade.

"We think they are a great organization and we love to support them," Simmons DeSmet said.
