Restaurant of Greenport is celebrating is 150th year of service this summer. In lieu of the anniversary the team is excited to launch a lineup of summer activities. While it's not the exact way Claudio's expected to celebrate due to the pandemic, they are looking forward to honoring many key members of the community.
On May 20th, the Claudio's team kicked off their summer community initiative by donating food to Community Action Southold Town (CAST), which serves low-income individuals and families on the North Fork. After the first donation, those in need can visit on and off menu items like Claudio's signature pizzas, pastas, and seafood. The restaurant recently re-opened for takeout, delivery, and dockside
pickup, so those visiting the restaurant can also donate canned goods, clothing, more which will be delivered to CAST.
"When we took over Claudio's in 2018, we knew we were taking on the responsibility of honoring a local legacy. More than a restaurant, Claudio's is a destination rich with history and ripe with experiences; from a boaters' haven at the Waterfront and a child's favorite lunch spot at Crabby Jerry's to a landmark restaurant once known for smuggling alcohol, there is something for everyone," reflected Tora Matsuoka, Partner of Seasoned Hospitality. "Staying true to this belief is more important than ever in today's environment - people need to know that although life is different, the monuments of familiarity still stand. Moreover, we employ a wonderful set of local talent and our ownership felt incredibly driven to support and provide job security. Over the coming weeks we hope to expand our offerings with social distance seating as government regulations ease, always keeping the health and safety of our staff and customers at the forefront with the goal of another 150 years."
In addition, Claudio's sponsored the EMT Celebrate Pizza Party on May 21st on the patio at East Long Island Hospital. The restaurant also donated gifted certificates for weekly raffles to the staff, as well as a decorated masks in honor of the 475 employees at ELIH. The masks will be hung at the hospital as a "Thank You" to the community's first responders.
Claudio's continued the celebration through Memorial Day Weekend by hosting a party for the residents of San Simeon by the Sound. Scott Sheehy aka DJ Spin Diesel
played music from a safe distance outside in the courtyard on May 27. Since residents have been unable to see their families during the pandemic, Claudio's encouraged relatives to send in a video message which was played at the beginning of the DJ's set. For those unable to attend in person, the celebration was live streamed on Claudio's and San Simeon's Facebook accounts.
"All the incredible community love pouring out of restaurants today may not have been a constant effort before but it is absolutely part of the fabric of our effort now and moving forward," remarked Matsuoka.
