The top-ten-charted, skillful modern jazz duo, Tuck and Patti are performing on Sunday, June 8, at the historic Suffolk Theater
in Riverhead. Their performance will be part of a weekend that includes soul celebrity, Ben E. King ("Stand By Me" and "Spanish Harlem") on Saturday, June 7, and an evening with the 18-piece big band, The New Millennium Orchestra, presenting a tribute to Tony Bennett
on Thursday, June 5.
Tuck and Patti features Tuck Andress, one of jazz's most accomplished solo guitarists, and his wife, Patti Cathcart Andress, a singer of astonishing heart and soul. The duo gained approval in the '80's with their back-to-back 1988 and 1989 top-ten contemporary jazz albums, "Tears of Joy" and "Love Warriors," which included re-imagined interpretations of songs that bridged songs of varying musical genres such as Cyndi Lauper
's "Time After Time" and Jimi Hendrix's "Castles Made of Sand" and "Little Wing."
According to the Los Angeles Times, the duo is "quite simply, one of the most remarkable pairings in pop and jazz history--as musically intuitive as Ella Fitzgerald
and Joe Henderson, as rhythmically intertwined as Astaire and Rogers." Tuck & Patti's music represents a development of the guitarist and singer duos of past eras such as Joe Pass and Ella Fitzgerald. Andress remains one of jazz's most talented guitarists. Through his work, he has the ability to create full, complex orchestrations with bass lines, percussion parts, chord melodies and much more on just a single guitar. Guitarists throughout the world emulate his style, while Patti Cathcart Andress' voice remains one of the most inspired and unique in the jazz genre.
Tickets the Tuck and Patti show are priced at $45. The doors, restaurant & bar open at 6:30 p.m., and the show is set to begin at 8 p.m.
The Suffolk Theater is located at 118 East Main Street in Riverhead. For more information, call 631-727-4343 or visit www.suffolktheater.com.
