Savory Sunday, a Southold Lions Club fundraiser, will continue in 2019 with several flavorful options. The first of the year, at First and South in Greenport, will take place on Sunday, January 6.
The new initiative was created by Southold Lions Club Secretary Karyn Cooper and Director Breana Cochran.
"Our goal is to help our local community, as well as communities around the world when needed," Mrs. Cochran explained. "All the members are volunteers, which means that any money raised from the public is donated back to the public, through various service projects."
It's "Locals helping locals," Mrs. Cooper noted - as not only does the fundraiser support the Lions, it also drives patrons to local eateries.
Savory Sunday takes place on the first Sunday of every month and each month highlights a different restaurant who will donate a portion of the day's sales to the Southold Lions Club.
"Savory Sunday was started as a way for us to raise money, so we are able to help our local community while also helping bring business to local restaurants," Mrs. Cochran added.
To participate and support the Southold Lions Club, all you have to do is dine at the select eateries on the first Sunday of the month.
So far, Touch of Venice (February), Lucharito's (March), Jeni's Main Street Grill (April), and Salamander's (May) are scheduled to host a Savory Sunday. The Southold Lions Club is still looking for spots to hold the June, July, August, September, October, November, and December Savory Sundays.
The Southold Lions Club, a branch of Lions Clubs International, is a community service 501(c)4 non-profit organization. Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization, boasting over 1.4 million members that make up approximately 46,000 clubs located in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.
