The North Fork Community Theatre's 60th season will open with an all black-and-white production - a first for NFCT- of Mel Brooks
' Young Frankenstein: The Musical.
The show will run Thursdays through Sundays, from Thursday, October 12 through Sunday, October 29.
"The NFCT is excited to open our 60th season!" shared Mary Kalich, NFCT President. "As an all-volunteer organization the NFCT is made up from our community, putting on shows and events for the community."
The musical is based off of Brooks' 1974, black-and-white film starring Gene Wilder
, Madeline Kahn, and Marty Feldman. The music and lyrics were written by Brooks and the original musical includes over 20 numbers.
For those unfamiliar with the comedy, the box office smash
spoofs the horror genre films that had previously been created based on Mary Shelley's 1818 gothic novel, Frankenstein
. Wilder plays Dr. Frankenstein, grandson of "mad scientist" Victor Frankenstein. When he returns to his grandfather's laboratory, Dr. Frankenstein decides to continue with his grandfather's work to bring the dead back to life. When a chance lightning strike shocks the creature to life, antics ensue. The film was well-received and remains a classic comedy today. The musical adaption, The New Mel Brooks Musical: Young Frankenstein
, opened on Broadway on November 8, 2007.
Showtimes are at 8 p.m. for the Thursday through Saturday shows and a Sunday matinee will be presented at 2:30 p.m. Tickets to Young Frankenstein: The Musical
Additionally, NFCT is looking for leading ladies and men to join them during the Theatre's upcoming productions of Next to Normal
and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
. Auditions for Next to Normal
will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 29 and Monday, October 30. Callbacks will be on Wednesday, November 1 at 6:30 p.m. Auditions for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
will be held on Sunday, November 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, November 30 at 7:30 p.m. Callbacks will be on Friday, December 1 at 7:30 p.m. The Theatre is looking for four males and two females to fill the roles of Charlie, Linus, Schroeder, Snoopy, Lucy, and Patty.
"Our goal during this special Diamond (60th) Anniversary is to reach out and engage all the people who have ever been a part of the NFCT: all of the actors, ushers, and audience members who have ever seen a show, and remind them of the joy of theatre!" added Kalich.
