The Parrish Art Museum
is launching By Design: Innovators in Art and Fashion in Conversation,
its first annual seminar on the relationship between design and visual arts, on Sunday, August 24, 2014, from 4 to 6 p.m.
The event will entail a discussion between Parrish Permanent Collection artist Ross Bleckner
and Southampton resident and international fashion designer Calvin Klein
. Editor-in-Chief of Women's Wear Daily,
Edward Nardoza, will moderate the conversation, which is expected to make a connection between art, design, and fashion.
"This conversation between Calvin Klein and Ross Bleckner brings together two icons of contemporary creativity, and is a perfect launch of our new program, By Design," said Terrie Sultan
, Director of the Parrish Art Museum. "With Ed Nardoza leading the way, our audience will have a very special opportunity to hear first-hand how these two artists think about the intersection of art and design."
Bleckner has a reputation for teaching at many of the nation's most prestigious universities, and, in addition to the Parrish, his work is displayed throughout the world. Pieces can be seen at the MoMA and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art in Norway and the Museo National Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Spain.
Klein is among the top designers in fashion, fragrance, beauty, and home collections, and has been recognized as a global fashion icon since the launch of his first collection in 1968. His sophisticated styles maintain a clean philosophy about modernism and simplicity and have ultimately revolutionized the designer denim and underwear industries.
Tickets are $150 for members and $200 for non-members.
The Parrish Art Museum is located at 279 Montauk Highway in Water Mill. For more information, call 631-283-2118 or visit parrishart.org.
