How To Fake A Homemade Thanksgiving Dinner In The Hamptons

The Hamptons holiday season is upon us. For most of us the next two months will be filled with family, friends, fun, and sometimes a bit of stress. Okay, who I am kidding? For anyone who does any entertaining the holidays tends to be more stressful than they should be. From preparing a menu to cooking all the food to fitting in shopping for gifts the holidays is a time when a lot needs to get accomplished.

Thanksgiving is first up and if you are hosting Thanksgiving make it easy this year by faking a homemade dinner without having your guests know. If you don't have the time, or just wouldn't consider yourself a "Top Chef," don't worry, here is your guide to a truly delicious take-out Thanksgiving dinner in the Hamptons. After reading this all you will to do is order the food and find an accomplice to help pick up your delicious dinner, just make sure it is someone who won't tell the rest of your guests you didn't cook it.

Sometimes to deal with family - extended or not - a glass (or two, or three) of wine is much needed so stock up at the local wineries. For a white wine splash pick up the 2011 Scuttlehole Chardonnay from Channing Daughters Winery (1927 Scuttle Hole Road, Bridgehampton, 631- 537-7224). Wolffer Estate Vineyard (139 Sagg Road, Sagaponack, 631- 537-5106) makes a delicious Rose. For a red try the 2010 Pinot Noir from Duckwalk Vineyards (231 Montauk Highway, Water Mill, 631-726-7555). If you like it sparkling try a the 2011 Sparkling Rosé from Bedell Cellars (36225 Main Road, RT 25, Cutchogue, 631-734-7537). Martha Clara Vineyards (6025 Sound Avenue, Riverhead, 631-298-0075) also has two sparkling wines worth checking out - their Brut or 2003 Blanc de Blanc.

If your Thanksgiving starts with appetizers like mine then Avanti Culinary Market (760 Montauk Highway, Water Mill, 631-726-2800) is a great place to start your culinary caper. They have a variety of party platters so whether you want an antipasto platter with sliced Italian salamis, prosciutto, cheeses and marinated vegetables, a vegetable crudités, or shrimp cocktail you will be able to find an appetizer to please the whole family.

If you prefer to skip the appetizers and start with soup, The Golden Pear Cafe (99 Main Street, Southampton 631-283-8900, also locations in Bridgehampton, Sag Harbor and East Hampton) has a two fall soups which would be a great way to start off your Thanksgiving feast. Whether you want a butternut squash puree with apple or pumpkin bisque The Golden Pear Cafe makes it easy. They have delivery Thanksgiving day between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a $30.00 fee and orders must be placed by 5 p.m., Monday, November 19, 2012.

With so many options for side dishes the Hamptons have something for every taste pallet. Cavaniola's Kitchen (89B Division Street, Sag Harbor, 631-725-8100) offers a delicious sweet potato with marshmallows and sliced apple side dish but make sure you place your order by November 17. Loaves and Fishes Gourmet Takeout (50 Sagg Main Street, Sagaponack, 631- 537-0555) also has a variety of side dishes ranging from traditional stuffing, or if you like a twist a cornbread and sausage stuffing, and also mashed potates or roasted brussel sprouts. Do't forget the cranberry sauce! We like the Homemade Cranberry Sauce from The Golden Pear Cafe.

Now for the most important part of Thanksgiving - the turkey. Stop by Citarella (2 Pantigo Road, East Hampton or 2209 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton, 631-537-5990) which has free range and organic turkeys so all you have to do is heat it up and decorate the platter with some sage and cranberries. They also have fresh hams, hickory hams, smoked whole hams or spiral cut hams with honey glaze if turkey isn't enough meat.

Now for my family no holiday is complete without a cheese course. Lucy's Whey (80 North Main Street, East Hampton, 631-324-4428) is a great place to browse through a plethora of cheeses ranging from blue cheese to brie.

Probably the easiest thing to find in the Hamptons is something sweet. Avanti Culinary Market offers a pumpkin toffee cheesecake, just make sure you order it 48 hours in advance. The bakery at Gurney's Inn (290 Old Montauk Highway, Montauk, 631-668-2345) has the most delicious chocolate mousse pie which just melts in your mouth. Beach Bakery Café (112 Main Street, Westhampton Beach, 631-288-6552) offers a multitude of sweet treats from a platter with a variety of cookies to cakes and pies. Of course it would not be Thanksgiving with a pumpkin pie so stop by is The Golden Pear which offers a variety of pies made from scratch.

Enjoy a stress free Thanksgiving this year and if you don't want anyone to know you didn't cook it, make sure you hide the takeaway boxes.
