There's no shortage of talent on the East End and on Sunday, April 3rd, Guild Hall will pay tribute to the rising stars that reside in the area during its annual Student Film Contest Screening and Awards Ceremony.

"This year's student film entries are some of the best I have ever seen and I hope that anyone who is interested in the future of film will join as at the free screening on April 3 at 5 p.m.," shared Jennifer Brondo, who coordinates the Film Contest which is now in its 12th year.

The popular program invites budding filmmakers in grades 2nd through 12th from across the East End to enter original video works. Those films are viewed by local leaders in the film and television community, who pick the top three entries in grades 1 through 4, grades 5 through 8, and grades 9 through 12.

"All of our submitted films are screened by 5 local judges (this year we have Dennis Fabiszak from the East Hampton Library, Marion Weiss of Dan's Papers, Marissa Friedes from the Hamptons International Film Festival, Morgan Vaughan from LTV, and Tristan Vaughan from the Round Table Theater Company) and scored in 5 categories," added Brondo. "The scores are then tallied and the top 3 winners in each age group are awarded prizes at the screening." The top films represent students from Hayground School, Springs School, East Hampton High School, and Home Schooling.

For grades 1 through 4, first place was awarded to Snowball by Milla Campomar. Ireland by Taylor Atwell took home second place, while The French Fry Story by Samantha Grabb was honored with third place. In the contest's second age group, grades 5 through 8, top honors went to Running by Dash Breen, followed by Hershey Park by Lire Coulter and The Creek by Myla Dougherty. For grades 9 through 12, Texting and Driving by Emma Norris was bestowed first place. Dance A Thon by Abigail Loos was voted second place and Shattered by Gage Getz was honored with third place.

Guild Hall will host a complimentary screening of the films on Sunday, April 3rd at 5 p.m.

Guild Hall is located at 158 Main Street in East Hampton. For more information, call 631-324-0806 or visit www.guildhall.org.
